ESSENCE Ventures has announced a strategic investment in Offscript Worldwide, the parent company of REVOLT, marking a significant move that unites two of the most influential names in Black-owned media.

The investment gives ESSENCE Ventures a minority stake in Revolt New Media Holdings LLC, while Sundial Media & Technology Group founder and chairman Richelieu Dennis will join the company’s board of directors. Despite the partnership, Offscript Worldwide and REVOLT will continue to operate independently under Chief Executive Officer Detavio Samuels.

The collaboration brings together an expansive portfolio of media brands, including ESSENCE, Girls United, ESSENCE Studios, ESSENCE Festival of Culture®, Refinery29, AFROPUNK, Beautycon™, REVOLT, REVOLT Sports, 3BLACKDOT, and the Offscript Creator Network. Together, the combined ecosystem reaches millions of consumers across digital media, social platforms, creator content, video, live events, sports, gaming, technology, fashion, beauty, and entertainment.

By joining forces, the companies aim to offer advertisers greater access to highly engaged and culturally influential audiences at scale while maintaining the authenticity and editorial independence of each brand.

The announcement comes at a time when live experiences and community-driven engagement continue to grow in value alongside the rapid rise of artificial intelligence. Earlier this year, the ESSENCE Festival of Culture® welcomed approximately 500,000 attendees, underscoring the ongoing demand for real-world cultural experiences that connect brands, creators, and consumers.

This investment is about continuing the momentum both organizations have built and creating the scale to compete for where media and advertising are going,” said Kirk McDonald, Chief Executive Officer of Sundial Media & Technology Group.

McDonald added that Black-owned media has consistently influenced global culture despite historically receiving less investment than its impact warrants. He believes combining the organizations’ complementary audiences and capabilities will provide advertisers with greater opportunities while preserving the unique voices that define each brand.

Detavio Samuels echoed that sentiment, emphasizing that Black-owned media serves audiences far beyond the Black community.

Offscript Worldwide and REVOLT built the audiences driving youth culture across music, gaming and sports,” Samuels said. “Sundial Media Group adds cross-cultural, multigenerational women’s audiences. Together, that’s the full range of people shaping what’s next.”

The partnership reflects the continued evolution of both companies. ESSENCE Ventures and Sundial Media & Technology Group have expanded beyond their flagship publications into media, technology, commerce, and live experiences, while Offscript Worldwide has grown beyond REVOLT into a broader portfolio of creator platforms, media brands, and cultural experiences designed to engage the next generation.

Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed.
