Uptown Records Returns as Danielle Price Sanders Takes the Helm of Legendary Label

Nearly four decades after its founding by the late Andre Harrell, the legendary Uptown Records is officially making its return. The iconic hip-hop and R&B label has been relaunched under the REPUBLIC Collective umbrella, ushering in a new era while honoring one of the most influential legacies in music history.
Leading the revival is Danielle Price Sanders, who has been appointed President of Uptown Records and Executive Vice President of REPUBLIC Collective. Joining her is Natina Nimene, who will serve as Executive Vice President of Urban Audience and Artist Relations for REPUBLIC Collective.
“Andre Harrell built one of the most influential record companies in music history, creating a platform where hip-hop and R&B artists could break through and truly impact the mainstream with integrity,” Sanders said in a statement. “I’m honored to help carry that legacy forward and support the next generation of artists.”
She added that relaunching Uptown within the REPUBLIC Collective framework aligns with the label’s entrepreneurial roots and long-standing commitment to artist development. Sanders also highlighted the collaborative relationship between Uptown, REPUBLIC Collective, and Def Jam as they work to shape the future of music.
The revitalized label launches with a roster that includes rapper G Herbo, City Girls star Yung Miami, rising artist Trap Dickey in partnership with Top Dawg Entertainment, and acclaimed producer ATL Jacob. New music from several members of the roster is expected later this year.
For Yung Miami, joining the reborn label represents both a fresh start and a connection to music history.
“This is a legendary label being resurrected and run by incredible female record executives,” she said. “I’m excited to continue my solo career with Uptown Records. The level of care and attention to detail they’ve already shown gives me full confidence that everything we’re building will truly elevate me.”
G Herbo also reflected on the significance of becoming part of the label’s next chapter.
“Uptown Records was a flagship for rap music,” he said. “It created the template for superstars in the eighties and nineties. It’s an honor to be a part of its story.”
Founded in 1986, Uptown Records helped define the sound and culture of a generation. Under Harrell’s leadership, the label launched and nurtured the careers of artists including Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, Heavy D, and played a pivotal role in the early career of The Notorious B.I.G.
As Uptown Records enters its next chapter, the relaunch serves as both a tribute to Harrell’s groundbreaking vision and a renewed commitment to developing the next generation of artists poised to shape music and culture.
