Nike Officially Confirms Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as Signature Swoosh Athlete

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is officially entering a new chapter in his footwear career. Nike has confirmed that the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar will join the Nike Basketball signature roster, elevating him from Converse’s flagship athlete to one of the Swoosh’s premier faces on the hardwood.
The announcement comes after a historic stretch for Gilgeous-Alexander, who has cemented himself as one of the NBA’s most dominant players. During his time with Converse, the Canadian guard debuted his first signature sneaker, the Converse Shai 001, in February 2025 amid his first MVP-winning campaign. Since then, he has added an NBA Championship, Finals MVP honors, and a second consecutive league MVP award to his growing résumé while wearing the silhouette.
In a statement confirming the partnership, Nike praised Gilgeous-Alexander’s influence both on and off the court.
“We are thrilled to welcome Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to the Nike Basketball signature family. Coming after back-to-back MVP seasons, we are excited to build on Shai’s incredible impact with Converse as one of the most creative leaders in the game.”
The move marks the end of a successful six-year relationship with Converse, which began in 2020. During that period, Gilgeous-Alexander helped redefine the brand’s presence in basketball culture, blending elite performance with a fashion-forward approach that made him one of the league’s most influential style figures. The Converse Shai 001 quickly became one of the most sought-after basketball sneakers on the market, with several colorways drawing inspiration from his personal life and journey to NBA superstardom. Limited releases such as the “Butter” colorway have generated significant demand on the resale market.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s transition to Nike Basketball places him alongside an elite group of signature athletes that includes LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Ja Morant. While Nike has yet to reveal details regarding his next signature model, the partnership signals that future performance footwear will be developed directly through Nike Basketball’s core design team.
The biggest question now surrounds the future of his signature line. Whether the next chapter arrives as the Shai 002 under the Nike banner or continues to incorporate Converse branding remains unclear. What is certain, however, is that Nike is fully investing in one of basketball’s brightest stars as Gilgeous-Alexander continues to shape the future of the game both on and off the court.
