Penn State Nittany Lions safety Zakee Wheatley is stepping into a new era—on and off the field. The Maryland native has officially graduated from Pennsylvania State University and announced that he will opt out of the upcoming Pinstripe Bowl as he turns his full attention to preparing for the 2026 NFL Draft.

A redshirt senior, Wheatley leaves Happy Valley as one of the program’s most reliable defensive playmakers, continuing Penn State’s long-standing tradition of elite secondary talent. Over his college career, he totaled 223 tackles (145 solo, 78 assists) and six interceptions, including three during the 2024 season that helped power the Nittany Lions’ run to the College Football Playoff semifinal.
