Run It Back: Is Caleb Wilson Returning To UNC For The 2026-27 Season?

Despite teasing a possible return on social media, it appears highly unlikely that Caleb Wilson will suit up again for North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball in the 2026–27 season.
The star freshman is widely projected as a top-five selection in the 2026 NBA Draft following a breakout year in Chapel Hill, making the jump to the next level the expected move. Any speculation about a return was further complicated after Wilson suffered a season-ending thumb injury.
According to reports, Wilson broke his thumb in practice while still recovering from a fractured hand—an unfortunate setback that sidelines him for the 2026 NCAA Tournament and effectively closes the chapter on his freshman campaign.
Fueling the conversation, Wilson recently commented “run it back? 😕” on Instagram, sparking buzz among fans. However, the post is widely believed to be sarcastic or light trolling rather than a genuine indication of his future plans.
All signs still point toward the NBA, where Wilson is expected to be one of the first names called on draft night. He headlines what many analysts believe could be a generational class, alongside elite prospects like Darryn Peterson, A.J. Dybantsa, and Cameron Boozer.
With that level of talent at the top, the 2026 draft is already shaping up to be one of the most loaded in recent memory—and Wilson’s future is almost certainly part of it, not another year in college.
