On a historic night that saw Dusty May lead Michigan Wolverines to its first national championship game appearance since 2018, the program secured another major victory—this time on the recruiting trail.

Five-star point guard Brandon McCoy Jr. officially announced his commitment to Michigan during the Fab Five’s alternate telecast, giving the Wolverines a cornerstone piece for their 2026 class.

Coach May’s vision lined up with my goals and dreams, which are to become a pro and have a long career,” McCoy shared. “He believes I can impact the game across the board—scoring, defending, and playing multiple positions while contributing to winning basketball.”

The 6-foot-4 standout out of Sierra Canyon High School is widely regarded as one of the top-five point guards in the nation and currently sits at No. 18 in the ESPN SC Next 100 rankings for 2026. His commitment marks May’s first five-star recruit since taking over in Ann Arbor.

McCoy previously visited Michigan in October and came away impressed by the program’s culture and attention to detail. He cited the team’s unselfish style of play and the intensity of practices as key factors in his decision.

On the court, McCoy brings a dynamic two-way presence. Known for his speed, advanced ballhandling, and ability to control tempo, he thrives as a playmaker. Defensively, his lateral quickness and instincts make him disruptive in passing lanes, while his versatility allows him to rebound and push the break with ease.

He becomes the sixth commit in Michigan’s 2026 class and joins a strong group of top prospects, including Quinn Costello, Lincoln Cosby, and Joseph Hartman.

With roster turnover looming—including key departures and potential NBA draft decisions—McCoy is expected to make an immediate impact. He could headline one of the nation’s most exciting perimeter units alongside Elliot Cadeau and rising talent Trey McKenney.

Michigan isn’t just building momentum—they’re building a future contender.
