One of the top prospects in high school basketball has made his college decision. Five-star wing Bruce Branch III has officially committed to the BYU Cougars men’s basketball, giving head coach Kevin Young another major recruiting win.

The 6-foot-7 standout from Prolific Prep announced his decision during an appearance on NBA Today, choosing BYU over powerhouse programs including USC Trojans men’s basketball, Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball, and Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball.

Originally ranked as the No. 1 player in the 2027 class, Branch reclassified to the 2026 recruiting cycle earlier this year and now sits at No. 6 nationally according to 247Sports. The Arizona native previously played at Perry High School before transferring to Prolific Prep in Florida.

A Major Recruiting Win for Kevin Young

Branch’s commitment continues a strong recruiting run for BYU under Kevin Young, who took over the program in 2024. The Cougars have now landed five-star talent in three consecutive recruiting cycles, following previous headline commitments from Egor Demin and AJ Dybantsa.

I wanted to go to a place that felt like a family, had great academics, and was really focused on basketball,” Branch said during the announcement. “I can see myself leading this team to a championship. It just felt right.”

BYU made Branch a top priority throughout the recruiting process, with the coaching staff making multiple trips to evaluate him and hosting him on an official visit in late January.

Elite Wing With NBA Potential

Branch enters the college ranks as one of the most versatile wing prospects in the country. The 6-foot-7 scorer possesses a strong perimeter game, shooting nearly 40 percent from three-point range during the Adidas 3SSB circuit with the Compton Magic while averaging 15.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

His offensive versatility allows him to score at all three levels — whether in catch-and-shoot situations, off the dribble, or attacking closeouts into the midrange and the rim. With continued development as a secondary ball handler, scouts believe Branch could emerge as a complete offensive weapon.

Defensively, his 7-foot-1 wingspan and quickness give him strong upside on the perimeter, allowing him to guard multiple positions and disrupt passing lanes.

BYU’s Wing-Focused Blueprint

Branch fits perfectly into the roster blueprint that Young has been building in Provo. Since taking over the program, the coach has emphasized building around versatile, oversized wings — a philosophy previously seen with players like Egor Demin and AJ Dybantsa.

He has a concrete plan in place that makes sense to me and is very clearly defined,” Branch said. “I’ll be held accountable and develop every day. That’s the position I want to be in.”

Young reportedly pointed to players he has worked with in the past — including Devin Booker — as examples of how Branch’s skill set could thrive in his system.

Building the 2026 Class

Branch becomes one of the headliners of BYU’s 2026 recruiting class, joining a group that includes forward Dean Rueckert and in-state center Will Openshaw. The Cougars have also added talent through other avenues, including former G League center Abdullah Ahmed and junior college transfer KJ Perry.

With another elite prospect headed to Provo, the Cougars continue positioning themselves as a rising recruiting force in college basketball — and Branch could be the next potential lottery pick to come through the program if his development follows the trajectory many scouts expect.

Joining adidas Basketball’s NIL Roster

Beyond his on-court accomplishments, Branch is also part of the growing Name, Image, and Likeness movement in high school and college basketball. The rising star recently joined the NIL roster for adidas Basketball, becoming part of the brand’s next wave of elite student-athletes.

Through the partnership, Adidas is continuing its push to empower the future of the game by supporting top prospects who are not only elite performers on the court but also emerging cultural voices off it. The initiative builds on the legacy of the brand’s Adidas 3SSB platform and its broader basketball ecosystem, helping young athletes expand their opportunities both professionally and commercially.
