On May 4, 2026, the Metropolitan Museum of Art will unveil its spring Costume Institute exhibition, Costume Art—and Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour are set to co-chair the highly anticipated Met Gala.

Next year’s gala marks Beyoncé’s first Met appearance in a decade. The superstar last graced the Met steps in 2016 for the Manus x Machina exhibition, wearing a custom Givenchy Haute Couture look that became an instant fashion moment. Kidman and Williams, meanwhile, have been consistent presences on fashion’s biggest night, including their appearance at this past May’s Superfine gala.

The star power doesn’t stop there. Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz will lead the 2026 Met Gala Host Committee, joined by an impressive roster of creatives and cultural figures: Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Alex Consani, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, LISA, Chloe Malle, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Lauren Wasser, Anna Weyant, A’ja Wilson, and Yseult. Additional committee members will be announced soon.

According to Vogue, Costume Art—curated by Andrew Bolton—will examine the profound relationship between clothing and the human body. Organized into a series of thematic “body types,” ranging from the Naked Body to the Pregnant Body to the Aging Body, the exhibition will feature garments and artworks from across The Met’s expansive collection. It will also showcase both historic and contemporary pieces from the Costume Institute. Notably, Costume Art will inaugurate The Met’s new Condé M. Nast Galleries, a nearly 12,000-square-foot space adjacent to the Great Hall.

I wanted to focus on the centrality of the dressed body within the museum, connecting artistic representations of the body with fashion as an embodied art form,” Bolton said in a statement. “Rather than prioritizing fashion’s visuality, which often comes at the expense of the corporeal, Costume Art privileges its materiality and the indivisible connection between our bodies and the clothes we wear.”

As always, the Met Gala will serve as a major fundraiser for the museum, with proceeds supporting the Costume Institute’s exhibitions, publications, acquisitions, and overall operations. Costume Art will open to the public on May 10, 2026, and remain on view through January 10, 2027. The evening’s official dress code will be revealed at a later date.
