Grammy-nominated rapper Wale is expanding his presence in the sneaker industry, joining sneaker preservation company CapSole as its chief creative officer and equity partner.

Announced Wednesday, the partnership will see Wale help shape the brand’s creative direction, develop cultural partnerships, and support its next phase of growth. Financial terms of his investment have not been disclosed.

Founded by Darren Lee in 2019, CapSole specializes in protecting sneakers from deterioration through a preservation system designed for collectors and sneaker enthusiasts. The company aims to make sneaker care a more integral part of collecting, helping owners maintain their footwear for years to come.

Wale said his involvement goes beyond lending his name to the brand. By becoming an equity partner and taking on a creative leadership role, the rapper plans to contribute his perspective on sneaker culture while helping guide CapSole’s long-term development.

Lee said Wale’s investment represents an important step in the company’s efforts to connect sneaker preservation with the stories, memories, and cultural significance attached to footwear.

CapSole developed its preservation system in response to a common challenge among collectors: sneakers can deteriorate over time due to environmental exposure. Working with chemical engineers and preservation specialists, Lee developed a system featuring a reusable, airtight pod and proprietary preservation technology designed to help combat degradation and slow yellowing.

Beyond protecting footwear, the company is looking to build a broader culture around sneaker preservation and sustainability, particularly among collectors who view their collections as both personal archives and valuable investments.

Wale’s appointment builds on a longstanding relationship with sneaker culture. Throughout his music career, the rapper has frequently highlighted footwear as an important part of his personal style and the broader culture surrounding hip-hop. His 2007 track “Nike Boots” became a notable reference to the sneaker scene in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region, where styles such as Nike boots and Foamposites have maintained a strong following.

In December 2025, Wale also expanded his relationship with Nike through the release of the Wale x Nike G.T. Future, further reinforcing his connection to the footwear industry.

With his new position at CapSole, Wale is moving beyond sneaker collaborations and into the business of preserving the footwear that collectors value. The partnership brings together his cultural influence and CapSole’s preservation technology at a time when sneaker collecting continues to extend beyond buying and wearing shoes to maintaining their condition and long-term value.
