Nike Air Bakin “Varsity Red” Returns
The Nike Air Bakin OG “Varsity Red” is making its return this fall, bringing back one of Nike Basketball’s most recognizable silhouettes from the late 1990s.
Designed by Eric Avar, the Air Bakin became closely associated with NBA star Tim Hardaway during his time with the Miami Heat. Its bulky construction, ribbed upper and aggressive paneling captured the bold aesthetic of ’90s basketball footwear.
The upcoming “Varsity Red” release stays true to the original, featuring a black base with vibrant red accents, yellow laces and white detailing. The Miami-inspired color scheme gives the retro model its unmistakable throwback appeal, while red Nike Air branding appears on the heel.
Additional OG-inspired details include the high-cut upper, exposed heel Air cushioning, pull tabs and chunky outsole. The outsole also features a red cutout finished with yellow Nike branding.
The Nike Air Bakin OG “Varsity Red” is scheduled to release September 29, 2026, for $170. The sneaker will be available through Nike SNKRS and select retailers.
