Chicago Sky Send Angel Reese to Atlanta Dream in Blockbuster Trade

The WNBA offseason is already delivering headline moves. The Chicago Sky have officially traded two-time All-Star forward Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream, marking one of the most impactful deals ahead of the 2026 season.
In exchange for their franchise cornerstone, Chicago acquires two first-round draft picks—one in 2027 and another in 2028—signaling a clear shift toward long-term roster building. Atlanta also secures second-round pick swap rights for the 2028 WNBA Draft as part of the deal. Sky General Manager Jeff Pagliocca described the move as a strategic reset, emphasizing roster balance while acknowledging Reese’s record-setting impact during her tenure.
The trade closes the chapter on a turbulent sophomore campaign for Reese in Chicago. Despite dominating statistically—tying for the league lead with 23 double-doubles and averaging a WNBA-best 12.6 rebounds per game in 2025—tensions grew as the Sky struggled to a 10–34 finish. Reese was candid about her frustrations with the team’s direction and even faced a brief suspension late in the season. While she never formally requested a trade, reports suggest both sides worked collaboratively toward a fresh start.
That new beginning comes in Atlanta, where Reese joins a surging Dream squad fresh off a franchise-best 30-win season under head coach Karl Smesko. She slots into a competitive core alongside All-Stars Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard, instantly elevating the team’s frontcourt presence.
“I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to join the Atlanta Dream organization,” Reese shared in a statement. “I’m focused on continuing to grow my game, competing at the highest level, connecting with the fans, and giving everything I’ve got to the Dream.”
Reese also confirmed the news on social media with a celebratory post: “An Angel’s DREAM. ATL, WHAT UP?!”
As the first major domino of the offseason, this blockbuster sets the tone for what’s expected to be a fast-moving and transformative WNBA free agency period.
