September Issue: Pharrell Williams Covers GQ
THE SEPTEMBER COVER IS THE MOST IMPORTANT AND BIGGEST ISSUE OF THE YEAR FOR FASHION PUBLICATIONS. SEPTEMBER IS ALSO TRADITIONALLY THE MOST IMPORTANT MONTH OF THE EDITORIAL CALENDAR.
UNITED STATES — The September 2023 issues are now arriving on the Internet and newsstands around the world. Magazines are going all the way out with their eye-catching covers and statement-making editorials. Some September issues even weigh more than a pound and have hundreds of pages.
Candy Pratts Price once said, “September is the January in fashion.” September’s fall fashion issues hold a lot of weight and most luxury houses spend the most amount of advertising dollars in this particular issue. The September issue always sets the tone for the next year in fashion and culture.
If you’re a magazine lover, chances are you know how important the September issue is. A lot of time and hard work goes into it. There was once a point in time when you barely saw a woman of color on the cover of a September issue.
It used to be hard for black and brown women to get onto the covers of magazines because “they did not sell”. That has been proven a myth. Now more and more women of color are on the cover of mainstream magazines, including September issues. And this is beyond epic.
Let us not forget 2015, when we saw the first surge of women of color on September issues.
